A New Enemy Of Our Food

India, where people prefer a variety of food over health, is facing a new problem nowadays. This problem is known by the name of adulteration. Various chemicals are being used to present the raw food to customers in its ideal color.

For the last few years we were suffering from sugar which was generally added in every type of beverage, energy drinks and healthy items. Sugar was added in a very large quantity of it. It was one of the reasons that people of every age group became diabetic and due to use of excess sodium chloride, we became a patient of high blood pressure. This high blood pressure has killed many people via heart attack, brain haemorrhage etc.

But this time the problem is more serious than that of previous ones. Adulteration in anything can change its nature completely. A new chemical named AURAMINE-O has disturbed whole food industry. This chemical is mainly used by street vendors, very small shopkeepers to sell more products and their product’s look becomes very attractive. This chemical is a synthetic yellow dye which is extensively used in industries including textile and leather processing, printing inks, paper manufacturing,  microbiological staining procedures. It is of vivid colour and very inexpensive. It can cause kidney damage, enlargement in spleen, mutagenic effects that can alter genetic material and other possible potential carcinogenic outcomes. In India, this chemical is not considered as an edible chemical in FSSA act. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has warned that this chemical can be carcinogenic in nature.

The main reason for this irregularity is FSSAI. This organisation is not working very fastly as per need. They are doing work in very old fashion.

We hope that our government as well as people  must be aware of this situation. People must again look towards nature and the government must take care of us.
