A Critique On Jantar Mantar Protest

Recently, we have seen one of the biggest student protests of India at Jantar mantar in New Delhi. This protest was very successful in its major demands which was mentioned in their manifesto like resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, compensation to the family of NEET students who have done suicide after the paper leak etc. this protest was led by Abhijeet dipke and Shree Sonam Wangchuk ji. But the protest was started on 8th of June when Abhijeet returned India from USA. They started protesting for the right of Neet students. But the movement was very slow because there was not any prominent face on belief of which the people can support the Abhijeet. Seeing the concerns of students, Sonam ji decided to sit on hunger strike till their demands are not met. He was doing his hunger strike but due to a Pil filed by an independent advocate named Satyendra Sharma in Delhi high court regards health concern of Wangchuk ji. High court said that with his consent administration can admit him in the hospital. But with proper watching the actions of cjp leaders, the newly appointed chief commissioner of New Delhi Shree Anurag Sharma decided to lift Sonam ji from site without his consent. He was lifted from stage on July 18 and admitted to Safdarjung hospital and later shifted to medanta hospital. Anger of all students present at protest reached at its apex. Many student organizations of political parties like Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha, all India students’ association, sfi etc. became very active at that time. There was a call to all students of India to reach New Delhi as soon as possible. Suddenly there was huge pressure on home ministry and administration of Delhi. Section 163 of Bhartiya Nyaya Samhita was enforced at that site. All the borders of New Delhi were seized. since the plan of cjp was that on 20th July there will be march towards parliament under the name of Sansad march where they will give application to parliament members and president to pressurize the government for resignation of Pradhan. But on the morning of 20th July there was huge gathering of students at different important points of Delhi like railway station, metro station, bus stand, Jantar mantar, red fort etc. The leaders of cjp were waiting for Geetanjali ji (wife of Sonam ji) that she will lead the protest with leaders. But from 19th July she was in hospital with Sonam ji and she didn’t come out of hospital till 10 am on 20th July. At the same time, the two major spokesperson of cjp Ashutosh and Saurabh was called by cabinet ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh. they started discussion on the demands of cjp. On the other side, Abhijeet was alone at the site. To inspect the situation, he started going towards backside but due to confusion crowd started to follow him. And on various social media protest for parliament started suddenly. Police administration started barricading the important choke points and high-resolution cameras were installed on every route. Slowly the non-violent protest became violent. police said that students started pelleting stone first while students said that police started beating with lathis first. Many policemen and students were beaten very brutally. especially the girls were very badly harassed. On the evening of same day news came that government is ready to met all the demands of cjp. And on 23rd July at 2:30 pm, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. This was the overall one of the major protests of the students, for the students and by the students showing the true democratic nature of Indian polity.

But my major point of concerns is that who is responsible for the violent protest. is it government or so-called leaders who were unable to handle the protest. They were unable to reach protesters when the students needed them most. Few of them were near ministers, few on truck and few were away from site. It is always said that leaderless protest has no direction. The probability for being it violent increases many times. Why the police and goons who had covered their face started lathi charging on students? Who gave them permission? the media and students need to be answered by the responsible peoples as soon as possible.

It was also seen that after the resignation of Pradhan ji, the student leaders were partying in a five-star hotel and the pictures of the students who had died after paper leak, were thrown in dustbins. the student leaders were unable to speak on that point.

It was also seen that various social media influencers and so-called students were abusing the family of top cabinet ministers. Their words cannot be written here. Who gave them this freedom? just imagine if you are the one who is a public servant and someone abuse your family; will you tolerate this? CJP leaders are justifying the students by saying that leaders must tolerate all comments on them. But what is the limit of criticizing anyone, will they decide?

We have also seen that the some of so-called influencers has been criticizing our army personnels and policemen by saying that you are not the servant of government, you are my servant. You never stand on border for securing us, you always try to secure the corrupt leaders. How many of the peoples had agreed with these influencers I am unable to understand it. The army personnels and policemen always try to secure our house, our district and our country. If they don’t do so we will be unable to take sleep peacefully. So never try to do mockery of such brave peoples because they are restricted by the orders of their senior officers not by such so called influencers and bad boys and girls.

In last few days, we have seen that anti paper leak bill has been passed from Lok Sabha (without proper discussion), Nandan Nilekani committee has been organized for educational reforms and Prahlad Joshi has been appointed as new minister of education.

In the last, I want to say to both parties that if you want that person in front of you must be accountable, then same rule applies for you whether you are in power or not.
