This innovative approach demonstrates how the country aims to increase its readiness to deal with dangerous climatic conditions including heatwaves, heavy rains, thunderstorms, floods, and pollution episodes experienced in increasingly sprawling cities.
The Urban Testbed project, part of the bigger Mission Mausam initiative introduced by the Government of India, is supposed to leverage modern science, technology, and atmospheric data to develop urban weather prediction models. With rapid urbanization and climate change, conventional methods of weather prediction can prove ineffective in dealing with unique aspects of urban areas.
